Do you like going to the movies? As an American, you probably do. Are you interested in celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation? As a Lutheran, you probably are. If so, I have an invitation for you!
Zion will be hosting a screening of a new Luther movie called “Martin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World.” Clear your calendar on Thursday, October 19 at 7:30pm, and come down to Luxury 5 Cinemas to see the movie with us! As a bonus, following the movie there will be ten minutes for questions and answers about the movie and the Reformation.
Here is a brief description of the film:
500 years ago, Martin Luther triggered a seismic upheaval that rocked the western world—with an impact that continues to reverberate to this day. This entertaining new film follows the great adventure story of Luther’s life, packed with political intrigue, kidnappings, secret hideouts, and life-or-death showdowns. At the same time, it’s a story about the most important questions of life, including “Who am I?” “What is my purpose” and “How do I get right with God?”
The film is a dramatic documentary featuring Luther scholars of various backgrounds, including a number of prominent Missouri Synod theologians. It was shot on location at authentic Luther sites in Europe. If you’d like to watch a trailer to get a feel for the movie, you can watch it on our website at www.zionmitchell.org
Tickets are $11, and can ONLY be purchased online, in advance. If you’d like to attend but you are uncomfortable with buying tickets online, call the church office and we can purchase them for you. You can reserve your tickets at: http://luthermovie.link/Mitchell or from the link on our website.
Please feel free to invite family and friends to attend with you. The movie should be interesting even to non-Lutherans. The events of the Reformation have had a tremendous impact on the shaping or our modern world, and the big question for Luther, “How do I get right with God?” is an important question for every sinner in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, which includes every human being.
In order to host the film, we’ll need to have at least 105 people attend. If we don’t get 105, the event will be canceled, and your ticket will be refunded. Don’t wait to reserve your ticket! Once we fill the theater, there won’t be a chance to see this movie in Mitchell again.
This looks to be an exciting opportunity to learn more about the Reformation and to share with others the joyful message of the Gospel that brought peace of conscience to Martin Luther. Throw in some popcorn and candy, and it should be a night to remember. Hope to see you there!
